“TRANSIENT BODIES,” WORKS BY LAUREN BRADSHAW, BROOKE DAY, JESSICA SWANK, HEATHER BAUMBACH, THEO TROTTER, TO BE EXHIBITED AT REVOLVE GALLERY
JULY 8-AUGUST 31, 2023
July 1, 2023, Asheville, NC - An exhibition of more than twenty photographic images, sculptures, ceramics, and mixed media will be on view at Revolve Gallery from July 8th through August 31st, 2023. The exhibition is curated by Jessica Swank, a photographer utilizing self-referential abstract sculpture as a subject to describe the blurring of boundaries between organism, machine, and nature. The opening reception, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. July 8th, will feature a performance by Brooke Day who world-builds a narrative surrounding creatures titled Morphic Vessels of Human Consciousness (Mvohc). Other artists exhibiting are Lauren Bradshaw who utilizes ceramic sculpture in conjunction with fibers and latex, Heather Baumbach who explores the complexity of her relationship with the physical body, and Theo Trotter who creates paper and textile-based wall hangings that reference the trans body as a palimpsest.
This exhibition will expound upon the fragmented, damaged, and repaired body to demonstrate ideas of transience and resilience despite limitations, pain and trauma. Biological and bodily references will be used as a metaphor for growth and transcendence beyond the boundaries of our typical forms. Each of the five artists included will address their own lived experience or constructed world through their work.
Revolve Gallery is located at 821 Riverside Drive Asheville, NC 28801. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
